Testosterone

Testosterone is a steroid hormone, from the androgen group, mainly produced  in the testicles(men) and in ovaries (women)Although small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands, Testosterone is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid.

Most of the production of testosterone (greater than 95%) in men,  is produced by the Leydig cells in the testicles. Llike most hormones, testosterone is supplied to specific tissues through the blood ,as its active metabolite called dihydrotestosterone.

Only 2 to 3% of  testosterone and dihydrotestosterone are circulating in the blood plasma in free form (AND THIS IS THE ACTIVE FORM)and most of this hormone circulates in the plasma joined  to two plasma proteins: the sex hormone binding globuline (SHGB, in English: sex hormone-binding globuline) and to albumin.

If our free testosterone levels are very  low and the levels of SHGB are too high, we can have adequate levels of testosterone production, but being attached to these proteins, they are biologically inactive and we will have symptoms of testosterone deficiency, as they are: anemia, depression, decreased bone density, lack of energy or fatigue, muscle loss, poor concentration, erectile dysfunction or inability to have an orgasm and infertility.

It is important  to do blood measurements of free testosterone and hormone and sex hormone binding and determine the percentage of free testosterone in order to correct, prevent and get the benefits that  provide the appropriate levels of this hormone in men.

If the production of this hormone is decreased with age, or the inability of our body in its production. We will use the bio-identical testosterone in the form of pellets lipo-creams or intradermals.

In women, the use of adequate testosterone levels will provide  benefits. They are: an increased  of energy and loss of  fatigue, loss of body fat, increased muscle mass, less likely to have osteopenia and osteoporosis, increased sex appetite, among many other benefits..Mujer
